The DOT+ location is now already an urban meeting place in Groningen. The temporary program is attracting many people. It would be interesting to let this special place grow further as a space where people come together, today and tomorrow.
Urban Dynamics elaborated an urban study to explore the possibilities of the DOT+ location. The aim was to better connect the area with its surroundings. As a ´green puzzle pierce´, to connect the fragmented parts of the ‘green canal structure’ of the city. It enforces the continuity of the partially already existing green park structure and the walking and cycling routes. The direct walking routes to the south ensure a better link with the UMCG area (hospital). In addition, the good water quality of the Oosterhamrikkanaal offers plenty of opportunities for swimming and water-related biodiversity.
The combination of an extra-large roof landscape and a wide variety of (built) programs – sport, healthcare, pop stage, catering, housing, working, playing – makes the location a meeting place with space for both green areas as for lively spots. An unique opportunity to further investigate together and to give ‘happiness’ a new place in Groningen.
